Lakeside Little Theatre encourages and welcomes everyone interested in acting, new or experienced, to attend auditions for any of this season's plays.
Tartuffe
Tartuffe, a religious charlatan, worms his way into Orgon's household, blinding him with his religious "devotion", all the while planning to seduce his wife and disinherit his children. Lechery. Greed. Hypocrisy. Just as common, and hilarious today, in Christopher Hampton's modern-English translation of Tartuffe as they were in Moliere's 17th century Paris.
Roméo et Juliette
APRIL 20-22 - 4PM
Based on the timeless play by William Shakespeare, Gounod’s sumptuous operatic adaptation traces the universally known tragic story of two star-crossed lovers from feuding families.
• A pair of artists at the peak of their vocal powers, soprano Nadine Sierra and tenor Benjamin Bernheim headline in the
title roles, with Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the podium to conduct one of the repertoire’s most romantic
scores. The cast also features baritone Will Liverman and tenor Frederick Ballentine as the archrivals Mercutio and
Tybalt, mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey as the mischievous pageboy Stéphano, and bass-baritone Alfred Walker as Frère
Laurent.
• A beloved staging by Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher—known for celebrated Broadway productions of
South Pacific (2008), The King and I (2015), and My Fair Lady (2018)—returns, combining stunning scenic and
costume design to evoke scenes of 18th-century Italy.
• Gounod infuses the opera with an elegant musical aura that reflects the soaring poetry of the original story and
provides musical and dramatic texture to the tragedy, which is admired for its contrasting elements of light and dark.
Frankenstein
APRIL 27-18 - 4PM
Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the increasingly desperate and vengeful Creature determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.
Directed by Academy Award-winner Danny Boyle, featuring Jonny Lee Miller as the creature and Benedict Cumberbatch as Victor Frankenstein.
